As a member of the American Zoo and Aquarium Association, Moody Gardens® works with other AZA partners to ensure the long-term survival of captive wildlife populations. One of the primary tools used is species survival. This is a cooperative effort made by zoos and aquariums around the country to maintain genetically healthy captive populations of endangered species.

Currently, Moody Gardens® is involved in a variety of SSPs including the Pink Pigeon, Ocelot, Cotton-Top Tamarin, Pygmy Slow Loris and Tomato Frog.

Year of the Bat - Join Moody Gardens as it kicks off Year of the Bat at Bats are Doing It. The event will feature guest speaker James Eggers, the director of education for Bat Conservation International. The program will teach guests about the importance of bats and how to get involved (like growing a bat-friendly garden or putting up a bat house).

Research Program - There is a great deal of important work taking place behind the scenes at Moody Gardens®. As one of our key missions to support plant and animal programs, Moody Gardens® has teamed with universities, medical experts, and professionals to develop several state-of-the-art research programs designed to aid medical research for disease cures, to replace pesticides with natural insect control and other conservation efforts.

Adopt-An-Animal - Moody Gardens® is home to over 5,500 different animals, representing over 650 different species. From exotic to aquatic, all these animals have to eat, and Moody Gardens® spends approximately $150,000 annually on food alone. You can help to provide the best possible care for the animals that reside here by becoming an adoptive parent!

Backyard Habitat - In an effort to promote conservation at home, Moody Gardens® has created a garden and conservation station to provide information on composting, regional gardening, and backyard wildlife habitat that show how attract birds, butterflies and hummingbirds into your own backyard using all native Texas plants.

Ocean Depth - Schools are in session in more ways than one at the Aquarium Pyramid®. Guests are invited to learn about ocean conservation through exploring the complex beauty and seemingly endless species of marine life of the North Pacific, South Pacific, South Atlantic and Caribbean.

Saving Animals - Providing a comfortable home for its animals is a priority at Moody Gardens®. Occasionally, Moody Gardens® also provides assistance when animals are in need of help.

Saving the Rainforest - Since opening in 1993, Moody Gardens® signature Rainforest Pyramid® has shared the wonders of the Asian, African and American rainforests with millions of enchanted visitors; helped focus worldwide attention on rainforests and critically endangered species and habitat; and added a stunning new destination point to the nation's recreation compass.
