Are you ready for a summer to remember? SAVY, the Society for the Advancement of Volunteer Youth, provides students 14 to 17 years of age with the opportunity to volunteer within their community while gaining experience in a variety of career fields. Through the SAVY program, participants have an experience that only Moody Gardens® can offer.
Goals and objectives include:
To expose participants to a variety of career fields, including biology, and education.
To help support Moody Gardens® mission statement: Moody Gardens® is a public, non-profit educational destination utilizing nature in the advancement of rehabilitation, conservation, recreation, and research.
To be an enriching program that will challenge participants mentally, physically, and socially, regardless of sex, color, or creed.
To provide an edu-taining environment for our visitors and guests.
To assist staff with various duties and responsibilities.
To help participants garner experience for future employment.
How to Apply
The application process consists of three parts. First, applicants should submit a written Moody Gardens® SAVY Volunteer application. Second, along with the application, applicants should submit at least two letters of recommendation from a non-relative. Once the application is received in full, the applicant will be required to attend a SAVY Open House and will be called in for a personal interview with members of Volunteer Services and the Education Department.

The SAVY Open House (SOH) gives applicants the chance to informally meet members of Volunteer Services and the Education Department and to learn about the program more in depth. The SOH also gives applicants a chance to meet each other while participating in fun games and ice-breakers. While this event is fun and informal, it is part of the selection process and is mandatory for consideration into the program.
SAVY ORIENTATION:
Orientation will be held for those accepted into the program on Saturday, June 1 and Saturday, June 8 from 9:00am-3:00pm for first year SAVYs and from 1:00-5:00pm for returning SAVYs. Orientation on one of these dates is mandatory.
