Education Workshop at Moody Gardens

Our Educator Workshops are designed to be used as a resource for teachers to learn new ways of integrating the natural world into the classroom. All of our Educator Workshops are TEKS aligned with correlations to Math, Science, Social Studies and ELA. For each Educator Workshop, we offer Continuing Professional Education (CPE) hours.

Upcoming Educator Workshops

Flying Wild – Saturday, June 9, 2018

Flying Wild explores bird biology, conservation and natural history while making connections to real world experiences. This workshop uses language arts, social sciences and math experiences matched with hands on activities and investigations to discover new ways to implement project based and community learning in the classroom. Flying Wild is geared towards middle school teachers. However, this workshop is adaptable for teachers of all grade levels.

Sharks – Thursday, June 21, 2018

We welcome all teachers to discover how truly amazing sharks are. The Sharks workshop takes a look into shark anatomy, behavior and more. Teachers will learn new ways to implement shark activities, demos and curriculum in the classroom. With a guided shark tour through our Aquarium, a viewing of a 3D movie and an opportunity to go behind the scenes on our shark exhibits, teachers are bound to leave with a new take on sharks. Sharks educator workshop is suitable for teachers of all grade levels.

Tropical Treasures – Friday, July, 20, 2018

The world of rainforests is extraordinary and this workshop covers it all from the forest floor to the emergent layer. During this workshop, teachers will get closer than ever to the rainforest with a guided tour through our Rainforest Pyramid and up-close animal presentations. Tropical Treasures is suitable for teachers at any grade level. We include great curriculum and activities while exploring tropical Rainforest and its inhabitants.

Wild for Literacy – Tuesday, July 31, 2018

Wild for Literacy focuses on literacy development with the aid of our natural world. We will break down the parts of literacy and discover how we can utilize our natural world to develop literary fluency. This workshop is designed with K- 3rd ELA teachers in mind. However, many of the activities are adaptable for ELA teachers of all grades. Wild for Literacy is excellent for discovering new ways to integrate literacy and natural sciences.

Private Educator Workshops

Schedule a date to bring your staff to Moody Gardens for an engaging day of professional development. We offer a wide range of workshop options which include the ones listed above. These workshops also offer CPE hours. For our private educator workshops we ask for a minimum of 10 teachers per workshop. Private educator workshops are $55 per teacher, lunch is included.
