The primary purpose of this position is to arrange guest seating assignments to servers. As a front line employee the host/hostess is the director of first impressions. Host/Hostess are expected to provide prompt, courteous, friendly and professional service to all Moody Gardens guests at all times. Host/Hostess are required to be detailed in every aspect of their work while maintaining an efficient pace. POSITION AUTHORITY: The incumbent is authorized to take reasonable action necessary to carry out assigned duties and responsibilities, provided such action is consistent with position guidelines as outlined below. POSITION GUIDELINES: Position guidelines include, but are not limited to, established company and department policies and procedures and all supervisory directives. The incumbent is expected to exercise sound, reasonable judgment and initiative, and give high priority to accuracy and details in the performance of job responsibilities. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: •Maintain a Guest focus while performing duties •Assume 100% responsibility for quality guest experience •Welcome and greet guests within 20 seconds with a friendly polite smile and eye contact •Inform guest of specials and menu changes •Answer questions about our food and beverages and other restaurant functions and services •Provide high chairs and special seating arrangements to guests as needed or as requested •Seat each guest in the appropriate section, rotate sections to ensure that servers are not overwhelmed and tables are distributed evenly •Provide menus for each guest and remove unnecessary place settings •Inform server of new tables seated in section and return to cashier’s desk and mark table as occupied •Check schedule daily to be aware and prepared for any incoming parties and special events •Ensure menus are kept clean and in a neat and tidy state •As guests vacate table ensure they are being cleaned and removed from the board as occupied •Replenish work station supplies •Inform occupied and unoccupied table to relief personnel •Communicate details about any waiting guests and their request to relief personnel •Be ready and willing to assist servers before they ask •Thank guests for their visit and invite them to return •Attend all scheduled employee meetings and bring suggestions for improvement •Notify manager on duty any time a guest is not 100% satisfied with their experience •Any and all other duties as assigned; duties are subject to change as management deems necessary to best serve the needs of Moody Gardens EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: •No prior experience required •Must obtain TABC & Food Handlers Certification prior to beginning work REQUIRED SKILLS: •Must be reliable and responsible •Ability to deal with large crowds and potentially upset guest •Ability to handle a fast paced environment that is often stressful •Ability to exhibit maturity in the workplace and have a cooperative attitude PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: •Ability to remain on feet for entire shift •Ability to grasp, lift, push, pull, or otherwise move up to 30 pounds •Must be available to work weekends, evenings and holidays.
