Volunteer Job Opportunities

Aquarium Exhibit Docent
Exhibit Volunteers interact with guests in the exhibit areas to answer questions and provide information.

Aquarist
Aquarist Volunteers work behind-the-scenes assisting the biologists with the daily tasks required for the maintenance, care and feeding of the Aquarium's inhabitants. Openings are limited.

Dive Team
Dive Team Volunteers assist our staff divers with the feeding and daily maintenance of exhibit tanks. Volunteer divers are also required to serve as an aquarist. Individuals must be able to pass an AAUS Dive Physical, a swim test administrated by the Moody Gardens Dive Safety Officer and attend an DAN 02 course on property. For more requirements for this program, contact the Volunteer Office.

Youth (SAVY)
The Society for the Advancement of Volunteer Youth (SAVY) Program is primarily a summer-based program. It is designed to provide 14-17-year-olds the opportunity to experience the marine biological sciences firsthand, as well as  to gain insight into a broad range of career fields.

Rainforest Exhibit Docent
Exhibit Volunteers provide information to guests about the flora and fauna of our Rainforest pyramid.

Rainforest Keeper
Rainforest Keeper Volunteers assist the staff with the daily care and maintenance of the Rainforest and it's inhabitants, which consists of various species of birds, fish and reptiles.

Education Tour Guide
Education Tour Volunteers are our first contact with arriving tour groups. They assist each group with check-in and with the coordination of their tour particulars.

Gardens
Gardens Volunteers work with the Gardens staff to plant and propagate all of the plants and flowers located on Moody Gardens' property.

Marketing
Marketing Volunteers are often invaluable to the promotions and special events planned and coordinated by our Marketing Department.

Information Specialist
Information Volunteers meet and greet guests, whether they are from Texas or far-off foreign countries, to assist them as they decide what to see and do at Moody Gardens. Share our information and your enthusiasm to make their decisions easier and their visit a more enjoyable and memorable one.

Hope Therapy Special Events
Hope Therapy Special Events Volunteers assist with various special events sponsored by the Hope Therapy Program. These seasonal events include the Mardi Gras Ball for Special People and Adaptive Sports Festivals.

Special Events
Special Event Volunteers assist with various events such as Ghostly Gardens, the Festival of Lights, Easter in the Gardens and off property events on behalf of Moody Gardens.

How to Apply

Our application process consists of three parts. First, potential volunteers are required to submit a written Moody Gardens® Volunteer Application. Next, you will be contacted by phone or email to schedule a personal interview. This informal interview allows you to learn more about volunteer opportunities and enables us to find the best volunteer match for you.
