The Society for the Advancement of Volunteer Youth, SAVY, provides students 14 to 17 years of age with the opportunity to volunteer within their community while gaining experience in a variety of career fields. Through the SAVY program, participants have an experience that only Moody Gardens can offer.
Applicants must submit a completed Moody Gardens SAVY Volunteer application with at least two letters of recommendation from non-relatives and a copy of their most recent report card. Once the application is received in full, the applicant will be contacted to attend a required SAVY Open House and schedule a personal interview with Volunteer Services. The SAVY Open House (SOH) gives applicants the chance to informally meet members of Volunteer Services and to learn about the program more in depth. The SOH also gives applicants a chance to meet each other while participating in fun games and ice-breakers. While this event is fun and informal, it is part of the selection process and is mandatory for consideration into the program.
Orientation is mandatory and will be held for those accepted into the program on Friday, June 2 and Saturday, June 3 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. for first year SAVYs and from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. for returning SAVYs. Please RSVP your desired date after receiving your acceptance letter with Volunteer Services.
