SAVY, the Society for the Advancement of Volunteer Youth, provides students 14 to 17 years of age with the opportunity to volunteer within their community while gaining experience in a variety of career fields.Through the SAVY program, participants have an experience that only Moody Gardens can offer.
The application process consists of three parts.First, applicants should submit a written Moody Gardens SAVY Volunteer application.Second, along with the application, applicants should submit at least two letters of recommendation from a non-relative.Once the application is received in full, the applicant will be required to attend a SAVY Open House and will be called in for a personal interview with members of Volunteer Services and the Education Department.
The SAVY Open House (SOH) gives applicants the chance to informally meet members of Volunteer Services and the Education Department and to learn about the program more in depth.The SOH also gives applicants a chance to meet each other while participating in fun games and ice-breakers.While this event is fun andinformal, it is part of the selection process and is mandatory for consideration into the program.
Orientation will be held for those accepted into the program on Friday, June 5 and Saturday, June 6 from 9:00am-2:30pm for first year SAVYs and from 1:00-4:00pm for returning SAVYs. Orientation on one of these dates is mandatory.
