Youth Volunteer Specialist
Education - Attractions
The Youth Volunteer Specialist oversees the supervision, training, evaluation, and development of youth continuing education for the Society for the Advancement of Volunteer Youth (SAVY) program. 
The incumbent is authorized to take reasonable action necessary to carry out assigned duties and responsibilities, provided such action is consistent with position guidelines as outlined below.
Position guidelines include, but are not limited to, established company and department policies and procedures and all supervisory directives.  The incumbent is expected to exercise sound, reasonable judgment and initiative, and give high priority to accuracy and details in the performance of job responsibilities. 
•Manage the Youth Volunteer Program (SAVY-Society for the Advancement of Volunteer Youth), including recruiting, interviewing, scheduling, training, and supervising 
•Actively recruit, interview, and evaluate youth volunteers
•Conduct training and orientation sessions for the SAVY program
•Develop and continuously update SAVY training materials with the collaboration of the Volunteer Specialist and Education Curator Create and manage SAVY monthly, weekly and daily schedules
•Develop, coordinate and attend continuing education classes, field trips, training, orientation sessions, and recognition event for SAVY participants
•Create and maintain SAVY social media
•Assist to maintain volunteer database (Volgistics) and all files; accurate reporting on volunteer hours for all adult, youth, corporate, intern and employee programs
•Maintain SAVY supplies, uniforms, and program items
•Act as liaison with other departments to assess their youth volunteer needs
•Coordinate youth volunteers (SAVY) with other departments
•Actively utilize youth volunteers as assistants for annual events and special programs 
•Responsible for youth volunteer participants and enforcing Moody Gardens’ policies and procedures; documenting incidents and disciplinary actions as needed with oversite from the Education Curator	
•Assist the Volunteer Program Specialist with the Hope Therapy programs and adult volunteer programs 
•Assist the Education Curator with the Friends of Moody Gardens by logging volunteer hours and other FOMG events or projects as assigned
•Collaborate with the Naturalist Supervisor, Education Specialists or Education Curator with education youth volunteers on interpretive station schedules and special programs
•Maintain and submit updates for SAVY information on the website 
•Travel to schools, area businesses, conferences, and community events for volunteer recruitment opportunities as assigned 
•Attend scheduled meetings
•Process mail, maintain reports, travel requests, and other necessary paperwork
•Provide positive guest experiences by initiating interactions and answering questions
•Be cleared to work with Ambassador Animals and attend review courses as needed
•Staff interpretive stations in the Rainforest Pyramid, Aquarium Pyramid, Discovery Museum, and other education programs or tours as assigned
•Any other duties as assigned; duties are subject to change as management deems necessary to best serve the needs of Moody Gardens
•High School diploma or equivalent required
•College degree or work experience in related field preferred
•Prior supervisory, youth program, and event planning experience preferred
•Must be reliable and responsible
•Strong supervisory and leadership skills
•Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
•Strong verbal communication and public speaking skills
•Excellent customer service skills
•Proficiency with computer word processing, spreadsheets, and databases
•Ability to retain large quantities of information
•Ability to handle multiple projects with competing deadlines
•Flexibility with scheduling; including weekends & holidays

•Ability to work around and with animals
•Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License
•Sufficient endurance to spend long periods (50% or more) in a stationary position conducting programs or staffing exhibit areas
•Sufficient mobility to spend long periods (50% or more) traversing on tour or conducting programs
•Ability to tolerate multiple climate change exposures throughout work habitat environments which include high humidity, heat, cold and outdoor conditions on a repetitive rotating schedule
•Ability to maneuver up to 50 pounds
