Job Detail
Maritime and Vessel Engineer
The Chief Engineer is responsible for the maintenance and operation of all engineering equipment onboard the boat. 
The incumbent is authorized to take reasonable action necessary to carry out assigned duties and responsibilities, provided such action is consistent with position guidelines as outlined below.
Position guidelines include, but are not limited to, established company and department policies and procedures and all supervisory directives.  The incumbent is expected to exercise sound, reasonable judgment and initiative, and give high priority to accuracy and details in the performance of job responsibilities. 
•Responsible for the operation of the engine room and any maintenance of machinery onboard the vessel
•Work closely with the Captain, occasionally holding equal rank, to ensure that the physical aspect of the vessel is completely under control
•Ensure maintenance is completed efficiently and in depth
•Maintain inventory for any spare parts, extra fuel and oil and keep inventory up to date
•Ensure that the engine room is well kept and prepared for inspection by higher authorities, and it is the Marine Chief Engineer’s responsibility in the event that the inspection finds the room unsatisfactory
•Determine the volume of oil, fuel and lube required for each voyage and ensure that substantial quantities of each is on board
•Deliver general daily operation of the engine room to the primary assistant
•Responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of all shipboard propulsion, hydraulic, electrical and auxiliary systems.
•Take charge of the Machinery Department, including fuel, ballast, water tanks, piping and fuel and lube oil inventory of the vessel.
•Carry out the Preventative Maintenance program and repairs aboard the vessel, as well as, short-term and long-term Preventative Maintenance plans.
•Communicate needs regarding supplies, spare parts, subcontractor assistance, and regulatory requirements.
•Completion of required records and reports relating to the Machinery Department
•Any and all other duties as assigned; duties are subject to change as management deems necessary to best serve the needs of Moody Gardens
•Bachelor’s degree from a merchant marine academy
•Current USCG license, Chief Engineer Minimum Limitations 4000HP and 500T
•TWIC card (Required)
•Experience with Caterpillar engines, hydraulic, electrical and oil recovery equipment (Required)
•40-Hour Hazwoper is desired
•Must be reliable and responsible
•Ability to read, listen, and communicate in English both verbally and in writing
•Must be proficient in any software associated with engineering
•Effective leadership and written and oral communications skills
•Ability to operate industrial equipment and their systems safely
•Ability to operate a personal computer
•Ability to lift and move equipment that may weigh in excess of 100 pounds
•Requires the ability to wear the personnel protective equipment prescribed by posted signs and written instruction
•Capable of prolonged, strenuous work onboard vessels 
•Able to work in various temperatures indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions including heat, cold, rain or dry environments
•Ability to perform work in various sea conditions, under all environmental conditions, often wet/oily decks
