Moody Gardens offers a Summer to Remember

MOODY GARDENS OFFERS A SUMMER TO REMEMBER

Enjoy a new 3D film, a new 4D film, a new VR experience and an exhibit for all ages

Galveston, Texas (May 3, 2019) — Summer is almost here and Moody Gardens is offering new attractions and experiences to provide an enjoyable daytrip or extended vacation at one of the most popular tourist destinations in Texas.

Explore Australia with new 3D Film

Explore "Australia's Great Wild North 3D," the new film will take guests from the wild Kimberly coast through mysterious and rarely seen Arnhem Land and then deep into the world’s oldest rainforest in Cape York. The film will open in the MG 3D theater on May 25.

The coast, rivers and waterholes are haunted by sharks. The plains are guarded by territorial buffalo and venomous snakes but the apex predator here is a living dinosaur – the salt water crocodile. These creatures have existed in almost identical form for 200 million years – even surviving the meteor strike that wiped out the rest of the dinosaurs.

The saltwater crocodile was the victim of unregulated hunting practices during the 20th century that caused a dramatic decline in the species throughout its natural habitat. However, humans stepped in to help and the species currently has full legal protection in all Australian states and territories where it is found, leading to a rebound in species populations.

4D Adventure with Dora and Diego

Beginning May 25, the Moody Gardens 4D Special FX Theater will present “Dora & Diego’s 4D Adventure,” a new family friendly theatrical film and attraction based on Nickelodeon’s hit animated preschool series “Dora the Explorer” and “Go, Diego, Go!.” For the first time ever, families can see these popular characters animated in digital 3D, with special effects that make the story burst off the screen.

In “Dora & Diego’s 4D Adventure,” visitors will join Dora, Diego and Boots as they travel from the tropical rainforest to the icy Arctic in a high-speed chase to protect the world’s animals from Swiper’s newest invention—a Robot Butterfly! Moody Gardens’ 4D Special FX Theater combines the visual drama of a 3D film with a variety of sensory effects that are built into the seats and theater environment, bringing on-screen images to life with added effects such as water mist, a neck air blast, snow, bubbles, leg ticklers, scents, enhanced floor lighting, and seat vibrations.

Explore with Dora and Diego inside the Discovery Museum

Explore the enchanting world of Dora the Explorer, her animal-rescuing cousin Diego, and their friends when this exciting exhibit opens May 25.

Guests will role-play, solve problems, practice sharing and caring behaviors, and learn Spanish words. Everyone will celebrate a successful day and be able to go away saying, “We did it! Lo hicimos!”

“Dora and Diego are fan-favorites. It’s exciting that we will be able to allow our guests to interact with them in a fun and interactive hands-on experience all while they are learning about different environments,” said Lisa Stegman, education curator at Moody Gardens, who added that education is one of the key cornerstones of the Moody Gardens mission.

Take a virtual dive with Reef Rescue VR

Reef Rescue is an interactive high-capacity virtual reality (HCVR) experience. Up to 16 guests at a time can take a virtual dive into a beautiful 360° coral reef environment. Remotely piloting their own R.O.V.E.R. (Remotely Operated Vehicles for Exploring Reefs), their mission is to help restore the undersea home of the fish that live at The Great Barrier Reef.

Fun for the entire family, Reef Rescue is the world’s first high capacity, interactive virtual reality experience. The immersive attraction communicates an important message of conservation by allowing each guest to help clean up the waters, plant new coral branches and feed the fish, returning the reef to complete health in the process.

Splash in at Palm Beach and enjoy Bands on the Sand

Guests are invited to relax their toes in white sand, recline beneath palm trees and splash amongst a variety of beach attractions including a 650-foot lazy river, wave pool and two 18-foot tower slides. Visitors can even enjoy live bands and fireworks on weekends starting June 7.

Other attractions at this venue include the Aquarium Adventure play area and Splashpad automated aquatic water feature with interactive dump buckets, spray arches and more.

Palm Beach will be open weekends starting May 18, including Memorial Day. The attraction opens daily June 1 – Aug. 18. As the summer season winds down, Palm Beach will be open weekends only Aug. 24-Labor Day on Sept. 2.

And, be sure to come out for Bands on the Sand, June 7 – Aug. 10. Enjoy this summer music series Friday and Saturday nights from 6-10 p.m. Each show features local and regional variety, rock, country and blues bands.
