Pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports in the United States, and now Galveston Island has its own dedicated place to play. Galveston Island Pickleball at Moody Gardens Golf Course brings four outdoor courts to one of the Gulf Coast’s most beloved destinations. Whether you’ve never held a paddle or you play several times a week, this guide covers everything you need to plan your visit and get on the court.
If you’re new to the sport, here’s the short version: pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. It’s played on a court roughly a quarter the size of a tennis court, with a low net, a plastic wiffle-style ball, and solid paddles.
The game is easy to learn, low-impact on your joints, and genuinely fun from the very first rally. That’s a big reason why it has exploded in popularity across all age groups. You don’t need to be athletic to enjoy it, but the more you play, the more strategy and skill come into the picture.
That’s the core of it. Most beginners are rallying comfortably within the first 15 minutes. It’s that accessible.
Galveston Island Pickleball is located at the Moody Gardens Golf Course, just a few minutes from the main Moody Gardens Hotel and attractions complex. The facility features four outdoor pickleball courts with wind-resistant fencing, courtside seating, and a scenic golf course setting that makes it one of the most unique places to play on the Texas Gulf Coast.
It’s a welcoming, social environment — the kind of place where beginners feel comfortable learning and regulars feel at home. Food and beverages from the on-site Pelican Grille are available, and drinks can even be delivered directly to your court.
Galveston Island Pickleball is a great fit for a wide range of players and visitors, including:
